TRINITY COLLEGE COVER LETTER

February 19, 2022

Trinity College School

55 Deblaquire Street North,

Port Hope, ON

L1A 4K7

Dear Kristopher Churchill, Head of Senior School,

I would like to apply for the Visual Arts teaching position at Trinity College School.  For the past seven years I have been living in Cairo, Egypt, teaching Visual Arts, Media Arts  and Drama (grades 9 - 12) at the Canadian International School of Egypt.  CISE is a private Ontario certified school that follows the Ontario curriculum.

I would like to expand my visual arts teaching to include a position at a Canadian school such as Trinity College.  As you can see from my resume, I have extensive experience as a practicing visual artist (30 years) consistently exhibiting my work as well as curating exhibitions and publishing catalogue essays for various contemporary artists.

In 2008 – 2009 I took a year off from my Master’s Degree in Art/Cultural Theory at the Frost Centre (Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies) Trent University, to attend their education program. In 2009, I graduated with an Education Degree and in 2012, a Master’s Degree.

Since then I have continued my academic interest in contemporary art theory, reading recent publications and expanding my practice to include performance work with poet Judith Graham.  My latest exhibitions include Coming of Age at the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington (2017) - a series of paintings, nine marionette-like puppets, drawings, an attic installation and a performance piece, CAI - YYZ: Arrivals and Departures (July, 2021) - a series of twelve paintings at Ludmila Gallery in Peterborough, ON., and most recently two works on paper for Collage (Jan 2022) at the Dignam Gallery in Toronto, ON.

I am passionate about teaching, art, performance, thinking, and the spoken and written word.  I enjoy working with students who are high achievers in the visual arts and with those to whom art is new and relatively unexplored.  One of the concepts of visual art that I investigate with my students is the ability of visual work to sustain paradox, contradiction and multiple perspectives - all in the same moment.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible as CISE teaching contacts for the upcoming year are being renewed over the next few weeks. I am available for an interview via facebook/skype/zoom or by phone anytime.

Warm regards,

Judith A. Mason
